Children’s House
A love of learning.
"I need to see a world outside for myself"
The years from three to six are a time of tremendous growth, curiosity, and transformation. Children at this stage begin to see themselves as part of a wider world. They develop friendships, practice responsibility, and take joy in purposeful work. In Children’s House, your child will find an environment designed to spark wonder, deepen concentration, and foster independence. They’ll be surrounded by beauty, order, and a community that gently guides them toward becoming confident, capable, and compassionate individuals.
We will support both you and your child throughout their time in Children’s House. With patience, observation, and care, we will help your child find meaningful work, navigate new routines, and feel a sense of belonging in their new community.
Core Areas of Learning
Children’s House is a joyful, multi-age classroom where younger children are inspired by older role models and kindergarteners thrive as leaders. Through self-directed exploration with Montessori materials, children build independence, concentration, and a lasting love of learning. Daily grace and courtesy lessons foster social-emotional growth, while purposeful academic work prepares children for future success.
Language
Children move from Sandpaper Letters and phonetic sounds to the Moveable Alphabet and expressive writing in cursive. This progression develops phonological awareness, vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension, ensuring a strong literacy foundation.
Art & Music
Art, movement, rhythm, and song inspire creativity while also supporting spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, and self-expression—skills that connect directly to literacy, math, and cognitive development.
Sensorial
Materials like the Pink Tower, Knobbed Cylinders, and Color Tablets refine the senses while indirectly preparing children for math, geometry, and scientific observation. These hands-on explorations form the basis for abstract reasoning and critical thinking.
Culture
Through geography, landforms, the seasons, and studies of people around the world, children gain not only cultural awareness but also early knowledge in science, history, and global citizenship. These lessons foster curiosity, critical inquiry, and respect for diversity.
Practical Life
Activities such as pouring, food preparation, and caring for the environment strengthen fine motor skills, executive functioning, and sequencing—all foundational skills for academic readiness and lifelong independence.
Math
From the Number Rods and Sandpaper Numerals to the Golden Beads, children progress from concrete experiences with quantity to abstract problem-solving. This approach cultivates both accuracy and a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics, far beyond rote memorization.
Outdoor Life & Enrichment
Outdoor Play
Children enjoy an hour of recess each day, building friendships, confidence, and physical strength through active play.
Outdoor Environment
Just steps from their classroom, children continue purposeful work in the fresh air, blending freedom of movement with hands-on learning.
Nature Walks
Twice each day, children have the opportunity to explore our 17 acres of prairie, forest, and meadow, sparking curiosity and a lifelong connection to the natural world.
Farm Chores
From feeding goats to caring for barns, children experience the joy of responsibility. Farm boots stay at school, ready for daily adventures with our animals.
Seasonal
In the winter months, children have the chance to lace up their skates and glide across our school rink - a beloved tradition.
Ready to Join Our Children’s House Program?
Our Children’s House program is designed for children aged 3 year through Kindergarten. Enrollment begins with a tour of our campus, giving you the opportunity to observe the Montessori philosophy in action. Tours are required for all applicants and are a valuable step in understanding our commitment to excellence in early education.
After your tour, families are invited to submit an application. Enrollment decisions are shared each February, with limited spaces available. Our goal is to welcome families who are excited to grow with us through these foundational early years.
Admissions Process
-
1. School Tour
The best way to begin your Montessori journey is with a tour of our school. During your visit, you’ll step into our classrooms, experience the beauty of our campus, and see the Montessori philosophy in action. We ask that parents attend without children so you can fully immerse yourself in the program and picture your child’s future here.
-
2. Submit an Application
Excited to take the next step? Complete the application form below to begin your family’s Montessori journey. A $100 non-refundable fee is collected at submission as part of the admissions process.
-
3. Admission Decision
Each application is thoughtfully reviewed with your family’s educational goals and our school’s mission in mind. We work to create balanced classrooms that honor diversity in age and gender while welcoming families committed to the Montessori journey.
Because spaces are limited, a waitlist may be implemented once classrooms are full. Families placed on the waitlist will be contacted promptly as openings become available.
-
4. Commitment to Completion
The Montessori approach is designed as a multi-year journey, with each stage building on the one before it. This continuity gives children the full benefit of the program and supports a strong, stable classroom community.
Acceptance letters and Enrollment Contracts are sent in mid-February. To confirm your child’s enrollment, families return the signed contract along with a $500 tuition deposit.
