III. The Visit
After parents attend a prospective parent meeting, an invitation will be extended for a meeting with both parents
and children. Younger children will stay with the parents during the interview
process. Elementary applicants will be invited to spend at a full day
in a classroom visit. The parent interview consists of general discussion
about the school and the Montessori philosophy. The interview lasts approximately
30 minutes to an hour.
IV. Acceptance
Acceptance of a child is based on several factors.
The most important one is the match of the family's and the school's educational
goals for the child. Siblings of present contracted students are given
priority. New applicants are selected for the remaining spaces. One of
our goals is to maintain gender and age balance within the classrooms.
Evaluations from the child's present school (if applicable) also play
an important part in the selection process. The first round of acceptances
takes place the middle of March. Decisions are sent by mail. Accompanying
the acceptance letter is an Enrollment Contract which must be completed
and returned to the school with the $300.00 non-refundable tuition deposit,
preferably within fourteen days. Following the first round of acceptances,
other applicants will be notified depending on availability of space.
V. Waiting Pool
If there are no available spaces, applicants will be placed in our waiting
pool. You will be notified when a place becomes available.
VI. Placement
Families will be notified of class placement by mail. As much as possible
the balance of ages and gender are kept in mind when assigning children
to classrooms. The Montessori method gives children the advantage of a
mixed age classroom, so younger students are stretched by seeing the work
of the older students, while older students grow from a meaningful leadership
role in the class.
The mission of St. Croix Montessori is to provide an
ideal learning environment based on Montessori principles that will guide
and nurture the full development of the individual.
