Sarah has worked at SCMS since 2014 as the aftercare director. She has a Master’s of Education in Advanced Montessori Programming and a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science (minor in Nutrition). Sarah was inspired to teach Montessori because “I wanted to be a teacher but believed that if children grow at different rates, (I wondered) why they are forced to learn at the same rate. Montessori fell into my lap at this time and I dove in headfirst. Haven’t looked back since.” At SCMS, she appreciates “building one on one relationships with all of the students, and not just one age group.”
Originally from Lino Lakes, MN, Sarah enjoys scrapbooking, quilting, reading, going to the theater and travel. If she could meet one famous person, dead or alive, it would be Mary Queen of Scotts because she is fascinated by her life story. If she could have any superpower, it would be to fly because “I could travel the world and never have to plan ahead.” Fun fact about Sarah: she studied abroad in Salford, England as an undergraduate.
Jesse began working as an assistant at SCMS in 2016. She was drawn to Montessori teaching in the process of finding an education method for her children. When she encountered Maria Montessori’s ideas, “I was amazed by this method and knew I needed to not only learn more – but to work in the Montessori setting.” Jesse is a registered nurse and has an Associate of Arts degree from Century College. When she stepped into SCMS for the first time, she says that she was “surrounded by its warm, inviting ambiance” and loved “being greeted by all of the children’s curious eyes. I have never been asked, ‘who are you?’ so much in my life! Their curiosity is something I love observing every day.” She describes it as an “honor” and a “beautiful sight, to see a child immersed in an authentic Montessori experience.”
Jesse is married to her high school sweetheart and has two children and a cat. She enjoys watching movies, listening to music (like Adele and Aerosmith), playing Monopoly, raising her children, and looking up at the sky "and everything above me." A fun fact about Jesse: she learned how to drive a motorcycle years before she learned how to drive a car.
Mikki has worked as an assistant in Primary South at SCMS since 2012. She was inspired to teach Montessori because it matched her educational philosophy. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Secondary English Education (Winona State University). At SCMS, Mikki appreciates “getting to know all of (the students) individually.”
Mikki is from Albert Lea, MN and lives with her husband, daughter, and dog. Her hobbies are reading, writing, blogging, and spending time with family. Although her favorite musician is Bob Dylan, Mikki is also just as likely to sing along with Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” and dancing to anything by Prince. If she could travel anywhere in the world, she would prefer “a long, self-paced European tour. Then I could spend as much time exploring as I’d like.”
